The Interview

MET: What made you want to start performing in beauty pageants?

Kailey: I started performing in pageants because my mother thought it would be a fun life experience for me. Fast forward many years later I have found such a passion in it myself. I run in pageants now because of the opportunities that I’ve been blessed with while on this journey.

MET: How many pageants have you participated in?

Kailey: Miss Hawaii USA will be my 5th time vying for a pageant title.

MET: What is the most rewarding thing about being a contestant in a beauty pageant?

Kailey: The one thing that I’ve found as most rewarding is the fact that I get to mentor and teach our community’s youth into going after and achieving there goals and aspirations.

MET: What has been your biggest achievement?

Kailey: My most recent achievement that I’m so grateful and honored to have had is being able to talk to more than a 1,000 students at Lahaina intermediate school about the very real issue of substance abuse and why it is so important to not fall into peer pressure. I’m thankful to have the opportunity to speak on such a serious topic and look forward to my next school appearance.

MET: How do you prepare for a pageant and how often do you compete?

Kailey: Preparing for a pageant is very hard work and there’s a lot that goes into the final show. I’ve been preparing for months now for Miss Hawaii USA and I hope it shows pageant night.
My preparation includes: Keeping up on current events, personal training, interview training and a walking coach. Needless to say I’m a very busy girl fitting this all into my daily schedule with an 8 hour work shift to boot!

MET: Do you ever get nervous before performing?

Kailey: I normally get excited to perform and excited to show the judges how hard I’ve worked to earn this title and normally any nerves subside very quickly.

MET: What advice would you give young girls wanting to start performing in beauty pageants?

Kailey: I would say have fun most of all, make friends and cherish the experience because you can keep those memories forever. When you compete remember just stay true to who you are and YOU will radiate through.

MET: Run through the pageant, what happens from the beginning to end?

Kailey: Before the show starts: Interview (only me & judges)
Show starts: Introducing contestants, Swimsuit, Evening gown, On stage question (random), Placement & Crowning….One girls dreams just came true!
